Explore Minnesota Tourism is the official Minnesota state department of tourism.  It promotes the state’s communities, lodging properties and attractions internationally through participation in sales missions, trade shows and familiarization tours.  EMT is a member of Great Lakes USA and Rocky Mountain International.  Minnesota means sky-tinted waters in the language of the Lakota tribe of American Indians.

The state is blessed with an abundance of water from North Americas longest river - the Mississippi; to Lake Superior - the largest fresh water lake in the world; to nearly 12,000 additional lakes beckoning adventurers of every interest. The spectacular shoreline of Lake Superior forms the northeastern boundary of the state.

The Mighty Mississippi River begins its journey to the Gulf of Mexico from Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota and flows over 1000 kilometers before leaving the state.  Minnesota is a land of contrasts.  Not only does the state boast of secluded canoe trails in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, houseboating adventures in Voyageurs National Park, northwoods resorts and more shoreline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined but it also claims the world class cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul with internationally acclaimed arts, professional sports teams, unique entertainment acts and venues and tax free shopping on clothing and shoes – including at Mall of America, the country’s largest indoor shopping and entertainment complex.
