GEOGRAPHY:

Los Angeles spans a widely diverse geographic area. Primarily a desert basin, the area is surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountain range and divided by the Santa Monica Mountains. Los Angeles ounty has 75 miles of coastline and altitudes ranging from nine feet below sea level at Wilmington to 10,080 feet above sea level atop Mt. San Antonio. Area rivers include the Los Angeles, Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers.

Southern California’s climate has often been described as “perfect” and with good reason. Most days are sunny and warm, with gentle ocean breezes in the summer. The humidity is low with little rain. In fact, there are no unpleasant seasons in Los Angeles.

TOM BRADLEY INT’L TERMINAL AT LAX

The new world-class international terminal offers better passenger convenience, amenities and services, and solidifies LA’s role as an international gateway. The $737 million project included major interior renovations to airline check-in and passenger arrival areas and baggage handling, as well as public art displays. Two of the boarding gates are designed to accommodate larger aircraft, such as the Boeing B787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A380 super-jumbo jet. Work is currently underway to complete the $1.545 billion Bradley West Project. www.lawa.org


Universal Studios Hollywood (Hollywood)  “Transformers," the electrifying blockbuster celebrated for its multi-generational appeal, inventive storyline, spectacular action sequences and special effects, will be developed as a new theme park mega-attraction in a partnership among Universal Parks & Resorts, Hasbro Inc. and DreamWorks Pictures. The attraction, coming to Universal Studios Hollywood by spring 2012, will fuse 3D-HD media, mega special effects and stunning robotics with a ride system that will transform perceptions of theme park experiences. The dynamic, motion-based thrill ride will tell an original “Transformers” story using sophisticated special effects masterminded by Industrial Light &

Cirque du Soleil at Kodak Theatre (Hollywood)  Cirque du Soleil debuted a new production, IRIS, July 22nd, exclusively at Kodak Theatre, home of the Academy Awards®. Described as “a journey through the world of cinema,” the new show focuses on Hollywood’s place in the history of movies. The word “iris” refers to the adjustable opening that controls the amount of light that passes through a camera lens.
