Daytona Beach

Overview

Daytona Beach is located on the Central East Coast of Florida about an hour’s drive from Orlando.  It is the perfect location for those wanting to explore the east coastline, with St Augustine just an hour’s drive north and the Space Coast an hour south. Daytona Beach stretches from Ormond-by-the-Sea in the North to the Lighthouse Point Park in Ponce Inlet to the South, the beach curves along 23 miles of beautiful Atlantic Ocean coastline.  Daytona Beach, The Original American Beach, is incredibly wide at low tide and never seems to end whichever way you look.  It is a great family beach for paddling with the children, trying a bit of boogie boarding, cycling, fishing or for just watching the amazing sunsets.

Daytona’s wide beach with smooth compacted sand has attracted car and motorcycle race enthusiasts since 1902 with Britain’s Malcolm Campbell setting the land speed record in 1935.   In 1959 racing moved to the purpose built Daytona International Speedway, which, is currently undergoing a $400 million transformation.  The city is also the headquarters for NASCAR and the Grand American Road Racing Association as well as the LPGA.

The Daytona Beach area is in the midst of investing nearly $2 billion in renovations and new build projects, with its quintessential American Boardwalk and Pier having had an update along with new beachfront hotels coming to the shoreline in 2016.  The new  ‘One Daytona’ shopping development, which will offer 1.1 million square feet of premier shopping, dining, accommodation, theatre and entertainment is also scheduled for a 2016 opening.

The Cici and Hyat Brown Museum of Art that houses the world’s largest collection of Florida art opened this year and in the planning stage is a new Hard Rock Hotel & Café and an upscale Westin. These additions and an eclectic culinary scene, off-the-beaten-path attractions and year-round cultural events offer visitors unexpected delights on their Florida beach holiday.
