What’s New in the Capital Region USA 2016 ?

100 years of National Park Service

2016 is the National Park Service Centennial and Capital Region USA will be pulling out all the stops to mark this impressive milestone. 

On the 25 August 2016, the country will celebrate the achievements of the stewardship for America’s national parks and for communities across the nation. With more than 20 parks in Virginia, 16 in Maryland and the National Mall in Washington DC, the region boasts some of the most vast and varied sites in the country.

Encompassing historical landmarks, mountain ranges and scenic trails, they’re all considered local treasures, and give visitors insight into the rich history and topography of the area. Washington, DC will host its annual National Cherry Blossom Festival in three National Park Service locations: around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and on the Washington Monument grounds. T

The festival parade will take place 16 April 2016. Also leading up to the centennial, NPS is inviting the public to participate in Find Your Park Experiences to learn, discover, be inspired, or simply have fun in national parks.
