New British Airways routes for 2017

Fort Lauderdale

British Airways will fly to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) from 6th July 2017.

The tourist city on the south-east coast of Florida will be served from London Gatwick initially three times per week, rising to four times per week during the peak summer season.

· BA will operate LGW-FLL from 06JUL17

· 3 x weekly on Tue, Thu, Sat (plus Sun 16Jul-03Sep)

· Route operated by B777 with a 3-cabin configuration

· Fort Lauderdale is located on the Atlantic coast in south-east Florida

· The city of 166,000 people is 45kms north of Miami

· Famous for the sunny beaches with an average year-round temperature of 24c  and 3000 hours of sunshine

· Cruising, yachting and convention tourism are large sectors of the economy

· Port Everglades is the 3rd busiest cruise port in the country

· Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is 5km southwest of downtown, close to the cruise terminals

New Orleans

British Airways will fly to New Orleans (MSY) from 27th March 2017. 

The Louisiana city, known as ‘The Big Easy’, will be served four times per week from London LHR Terminal 5. This will be the 1st direct service to operate from Europe to the city famous for Mardi Gras and jazz music.

· Route operated by 787-8 Dreamliner with a 3-cabin configuration

· New Orleans, the largest city of Louisiana located on the Mississippi River, close to the river delta into the Gulf of Mexico

· Tourism and convention business are important for the city economy

· Famous historical area of the French Quarter, including Bourbon Street with many jazz bars and cafes

· The Mardi Gras festival is held in February and the world famous Jazz Fest takes place the last weekend of April, first weekend of May

· Creole and Cajun food are unique to the region, including beignet pastries, jambalaya and gumbo

· Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is 11 miles west of downtown


British Airways will fly to Oakland (OAK) in California from 28th March 2017.

The city across the bay from San Francisco will be served year round by a 3-cabin B777 from London Gatwick. During the summer season the frequency will be four times per week, reducing to 3 times per week for the winter.

· Located directly across the bay from San Francisco, 6miles (9.7km) east from downtown SFO

· The city is a major west coast port and is also the western terminus for the Trans-continental rail

· Recently the city has been attracting new technology companies and tourism is expanding with new hotels and a revived downtown

· The University of California, Berkeley campus is located close by

· Oakland International Airport (OAK) is 5 miles south of the city

· It is the closest airport to the financial district of San Francisco

· Terminal 1 handles international flights and is undergoing a $200 million upgrade
