Michelin Guide Arrives in Philadelphia, Highlighting the City’s World-Class Food Scene

Philadelphia, already famous for its rich history and cultural attractions like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, is gaining international culinary acclaim with the announcement that it will now be featured in the prestigious MICHELIN Guide. This recognition highlights the city’s exceptional restaurants and diverse culinary landscape, making it an even more appealing destination for Irish travellers.

The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) confirmed that MICHELIN inspectors have begun anonymously reviewing the city's restaurants. Philadelphia joins an elite group of American culinary destinations including New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Chicago in the MICHELIN Guide Northeast Cities edition. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, marked this significant milestone with his first-ever visit to Philadelphia, attending a special announcement event at the Barnes Foundation. During his stay, he is experiencing some of Philadelphia’s most celebrated dining establishments, including acclaimed restaurants Kalaya and Casa Mexico, both led by innovative female chefs.

“Philadelphia has a really special food scene, full of incredibly talented chefs who put immense thought and care into preparing some of the most delicious meals you’ll find anywhere in the world,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.

With America’s 250th anniversary celebrations set for 2026, Philadelphia’s inclusion in the MICHELIN Guide provides yet another enticing reason for Irish visitors to experience the city’s culinary excellence firsthand.
