San Diego's summer offerings

The San Diego Zoo in Balbao Park is commemorating its 100th year with a series of special summer events that includes a new show filled with music, video and animal ambassadors; a new centennial-themed Bus Tour Film Experience, featuring a cinematic look at the zoo's global conservation work, and Night-time Zoo (July 19−September 5), which sees the zoo staying open until late and offering entertainment and animal encounters.

Elsewhere in central Balboa Park, the new Park After Dark programme is featuring evening organ pavilion concerts and dance and theatre performances. Numerous cultural institutions in the park - such as the San Diego Natural History Museum and The San Diego Museum of Art - are offering extended hours on select Friday evenings until September 2.

In March the Living Coast Discovery Center re-opened its signature exhibit, Turtle Lagoon, home to four endangered eastern Pacific green sea turtles. The center is currently showing Passport to the Pacific: A Tour Around the World's Largest Ocean, which sees guests “travel” through rainforests, coral reefs, sandy beaches,mangroves. deserts and the coast.

And in the heart of Mission Valley the newly-opened iFLY San Diego offers San Diego's first indoor sky-diving wind tunnel. Guests fly on a smooth cushion of air with the help of iFLY certified flight instructors.

In March this year British Airways deployed a larger aircraft on the San Diego-London route. The Boeing 747-400 offers a 20% increase in seats during the peak summer months.
