New ESTA App Enhances Passenger Experience

Travelers can ensure their privacy and convenience by applying for visa-free travel to the United States using the new Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) mobile app. The app enables travelers to submit ESTA applications from their smartphones or tablets. Available in 43 countries and 28 languages, the ESTA mobile app is the most secure way for individual travelers (or third parties) to obtain a Visa Waiver.

With the app, travelers have the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) in the palm of their hands, so they can:

  • Choose their preferred language to complete the application
  • Scan an image of their passport
  • Have their passport read and confirmed
  • Upload a live video selfie to confirm their identity
  • Add personal and travel details to their application
  • Answer eligibility questions; Review and submit their application
  • Make changes or updates to their application or profile
  • Receive notifications and application status updates
  • Save time by storing their preferences and profile details within the app
  • Automatically retrieve their ESTA application using the biometric authentication available on their mobile device.

Citizens from VWP countries can travel to the U.S. for business or tourism purposes and stay for up to 90 days without needing a visa. A Visa Waiver remains valid for two years or until the traveler’s passport expires and costs $21.00.
