World Class Art & History at the University of Illinois
Visiting the University of Illinois campus to explore the Krannert Art Museum is a deeply enriching experience. You will find the museum houses over 11,000 works of art spanning all periods, from ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary photography. It holds strengths especially in 20th-century art, Asian art, and pre-Columbian pieces, which highlight diverse global cultures and histories.
The museum frequently hosts 6 to 10 special exhibitions each year, showcasing art from national and international collections as well as exhibitions by contemporary artists, faculty, and students. One of the most captivating exhibitions is “Art Since 1948,” which explores powerful themes in modern and contemporary art, including American and European surrealism and abstract painting, connecting me with artistic developments over six decades.
Alongside the museum, the Krannert Centre for the Performing Arts offers world-class music, theatre, and dance performances. This cultural hub on campus enriches the broader Great Lakes region’s artistic and educational heritage, making the University of Illinois a vibrant destination for anyone interested in art, history, and the performing arts linked to the cultural fabric of the Great Lakes area.
