Accessibility on the Space Coast
Florida’s Space Coast is making it easier for visitors of all abilities to enjoy a beach holiday, with accessible beaches, attractions, outdoor experiences, boat tours and accommodations available throughout the destination.
Stretching along Florida’s Atlantic coast, the Space Coast combines 72 miles of beaches with natural areas, family attractions and outdoor adventures. Recognising that sand, uneven terrain and other natural environments can present challenges for visitors with mobility limitations, local businesses and attractions have introduced a range of facilities and services designed to improve accessibility.
Beach access is supported by ramps at many beach crossovers, while beach wheelchair rentals are available from several providers and organisations, including A1A Beach Rentals, Sand Helper, Sebastian Inlet State Park and local fire departments. Mobi Mats in Cape Canaveral also provide a more accessible route across the sand.
Accessibility extends beyond the beach. At Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, visitors can use lifts and elevators to access attractions including the treetop walkway in Rain Forest Revealed, while wheelchair and electric conveyance vehicle rentals are available. The zoo also offers designated quiet zones and sensory bags.
At the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Titusville, visitors can access wheelchair and electric convenience vehicle rentals, ramps and spacious facilities, making one of Florida’s most significant visitor attractions accessible to a wide range of guests.
Families can also visit the Space Coast Field of Dreams in West Melbourne, which features accessible playgrounds, a splash pad, mini golf and sports fields designed for children and families of all abilities. In Indialantic, the Mikey Goodwin Playground at James H. Nance Park incorporates accessible routes, ramps and wheelchair-friendly safety surfacing, together with parallel-play features and a communication board for children with limited language skills.
