Minnesota Earns Top Recognition from Lonely Planet
Minnesota – specifically, the northeastern region along Lake Superior – is one of Lonely Planet’s Top 50 Places to Visit in 2027. Only seven U.S. locations made the prestigious global list. Lonely Planet, a highly respected travel authority, cites the natural beauty and slower pace along Minnesota’s North Shore All-American Scenic Byway and inland northern woods as the compelling factor for Minnesota’s selection.
The picturesque drive, which starts in the gateway port city of Duluth, stretches 234 kilometers to the Canadian border near the Grand Portage National Monument. Lake Superior, which many call an inland sea, is the largest freshwater lake in North America. Travelers organically stop along the route for waterfalls, beaches, small towns and stunning views.
The area’s northern forests also make it an ultimate autumn location – one that rivals New England. Maple, oak, aspen and poplar create a kaleidoscope of color while warm fall days create the ideal conditions for outdoor adventures.
The word is out. Now is a perfect time to build a Minnesota North Shore itinerary for fall of 2027.
